We are The Gunpowder Works, a Kent-based promoter and label aiming to showcase and distribute the new breed of exciting, modern folk bands currently flourishing in the south east.

We take the most interesting, creative and beautiful bands we can find and put on shows in places you may not expect – a restored Thames barge, the county’s smallest theatre, a decommissioned lightship.

We want every performance to be memorable; a night that transcends the standard gig-going experience through a combination of stunning music and location.

Equally we aim to make our releases something special, concentrating on limited runs, often with a handmade approach to artwork and packaging.

The instant gratification offered by digital downloads is undoubtably great, and you can hear all our bands here but, conversely, we think it’s also important to appreciate the value and effort that goes into producing great music.

We want to make music special again by delivering the best live experience we can, memories that stay with the audience long after the last notes have died.

Very interested in your name (gunpowder connection), and (on this page) mention of restored Thames barge… which one?
The Faversham Creek Trust is a not-for-profit company working to restore the Creek here as a usable navigation, creating an apprenticeship school for traditional maritime trades and skills (like restoring barges!) on the Creek basin. We are looking for community involvement and fund-raisers, so anything you can come up with which might support our activity would be good.
Cheers
Griselda
